There are many things that can go wrong on the wedding day, so please be prepared. Many of the accidents that occur can be easily and quickly remedied by small things that can fit inside a clutch or a small handbag.
Yes, ladies, I’m talking about the emergency kit.
While it doesn’t need to be elaborate, including some of these essentials will ensure that if you do have a situation you’ll be covered:
- Dr. Scholl’s Blister Treatment
- Bobby pins
- Safety pins (various sizes)
- Shout wipes
- Crazy glue/super glue
- tissues
- Rice paper (to blot shine)
- Tissues
- Tylenol
- Hair spray
- Clear nail polish
- Travel sewing kit
- Mints
- Straws
There are more things you can add but these are the things I have in my kit that I am constantly replenishing because they are the most used at weddings. Most of these can be bought at stores in travel sizes. If you want to buy prepackaged emergency kits, try companies like With You in Mind or My Mojuba.
And by that I mean planning the wedding on your own (sans wedding planner) you will find that while there’s a ton of information out there to help you plan the wedding, you have a huge problem. There’s a TON of information out there.
So now the issue is–how to navigate through all that stuff to get to the stuff that helps YOU.
*Start with bridal blogs. Google “bridal blogs” or “wedding blogs” and you’re bound to find a ton of stuff. But what you’ll find too when you start checking them out is brides who have used and recommend specific sites or services. What you’re looking for here is sites that are recommended. Click on these sites and you’ll start to notice a pattern. These sites will a) be national, b)offer national services and c) were battled tested by people just like you.
*Google local planners. Google “
Chicago wedding planners” or “kjs
weddings” (lol) and look through these planners’ sites. Specifically–you want planners who have a blog. These planners offer advice and recommended vendors to help make your search easier. Their blogs will also be a source of info on trends, decor ideas, bridal shows or events happening in the area or special offers that would benefit you, the bride. I can’t speak for all planners, but blog posts are not based on “pay to play” (Chicagoans, you know what I mean by that). I offer recommendations based on past, current or future association with a vendor and when I recommend them that means that I’ve at LEAST met with them. This will help you with narrowing down the field from 1000 photographers to ones I feel have much to offer the client (and I will be specific in my posts. So if you’re looking for someone artistic or candid or journalistic, my blog posts will let you know.
Another reason this is a great place to start is you can see their blogroll. Who do they link to? Again, I don’t get paid from my peeps for their links so mine are 100% there because I love to work with them.

Having a wedding doesn’t mean you need to go into debt. Wedding vendors are offering brides many cost-effective options in order to ease the stress of the planning process. A great way to save on costs is to create a wedding website. Sites like Project Wedding offer free wedding websites for couples to let their guests, family and friends know all about their wedding. Cut stationary costs by using sites like these to include details such as hotel accommodations, transportation, itineraries, even local attractions for your out-of-town guests. Upload photos for all your loved ones to enjoy and share.
Project Wedding also provides information on local vendors. Visit Project Wedding and get started on your trip to the altar today!
If you haven’t already done so, check out Luke’s Journal on KJS weddings. Our anonymous groom has an update on how he’s coping with his fiance and future in-laws and the road down the aisle. Seems like things are starting to get back to normal and Luke’s in a ponderous mood. Will peace last? Can he and Laura find their way back to that special time when they meant everything to each other?
